Assam Saurav Award To Be Conferred Upon Four Recipients

 
GUWAHATI: Assam Saurav Award is to be conferred upon four recipients from the art, culture, and sports fields, as announced on January 16. 

The recipients that are to be conferred with Assam Saurav are Kishan Chand Nauriyal, Elvis Ali Hazarika, Hima Das, and Nadiram Deuri.

The civilian honour will be presented by the Government of Assam in recognition of their exceptional service and performances in the respective fields of Art & Culture and Sports.

Kishan Chand Nauriyal is currently serving as a Cultural Expert, at the Directorate of Archaeology, Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture Department. He has over 35 years of experience in cultural heritage management in the Archaeological Survey of India.

He has also performed the main duties of preparation of World Heritage Nomination Dossier in a leading role as Cultural Expert in respect of Moidams -- the Mound-Burial System of the Ahom Dynasty at Charaideo in Assam which is a very extensive and intensive table and field research assignment. 

The second recipient Elvis Ali Hazarika is an international Swimmer hailing from Kamrup (M) District of Assam. He won his first National medal for Assam in 1989 and at the age of 9, he became the youngest Indian swimmer to represent India in the Asia Pacific Championship, 1991 held in Singapore.

The third recipient, Hima Das is an Indian sprinter who holds the current Indian national record in 400 meters with a timing of 50.79s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. She is also the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships 

The last recipient, Nadiram Deuri is an exponent of Tiwa Folk Dance, Lyrics and Music who has been involved with the Tiwa Folk Dance Since 1976. He has trained more than thousands of Tiwa and Non-Tiwa Trainees in Tiwa Folk Dance under the Cultural Affairs Department, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Sangeet Natak Academy, North East, Guwahati & other Academic and non academic institutions. Deuri has also authored a book called “Barat Tiwa Folk Dance” published on July 15, 2022.

Recipients of the Assam Baibhav will be honoured with a citation, certificate, medal, and a monetary reward of ₹5 lakh. 

Similarly, awardees of the Assam Saurav will receive a citation, certificate, medal, and a monetary sum of ₹4 lakh, while those bestowed with the Assam Gaurav will be acknowledged with a citation, certificate, medal, and a monetary sum of ₹3 lakh.

The awardees will enjoy additional privileges, including complimentary medical treatment in government hospitals with accommodation in paying cabins, where available. They will be provided with free lodging in State Government Circuit Houses, Guest Houses, and Assam Bhawans. 

As distinguished guests, they will receive regular invitations to official functions.

The Government of Assam will allocate up to ₹2 lakh for medical expenses related to critical illnesses. Additionally, recipients are entitled to free travel in ASTC buses with a 24-hour prior notice of their proposed journey.
