GUWAHATI: The Gauhati Tea Auction Centre has broken the price record of CTC (crush, tear, curl) tea. Assam's Halmari Tea has managed to fetch a record price of Rs 640 per kg in an auction held on June 11.
The BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe) grade tea is produced at Halmari Tea Estate located at Sivasagar district and sold by J. Thomas & Co.
The buyer has purchased 307.3 kgs of the tea.
"This tea has the character of second flush (summer flush) season tea. It's got a really nice aroma, perfect to taste and golden bright yellow cup, which is normally not found in other teas," said Priyanuz Dutta, Secretary Guwahati Tea Auction Centre.
