Assam: Rs 8000 per month as state pension to 20 retired journalists

GUWAHATI: On the occasion of 72nd Independence Day, the State Government has declared the names of 20 retired senior Journalists for awarding pension under the Assam Pension Scheme for Journalists 2018.

The amount of pension will be Rs. 8000 per month per person with effect from 1st  April 2018.

“Journalists make up the fourth estate and the government can only perform well if it continues to get proper support from the media fraternity. Thus, ensuring benefits of the journalists become essential in a democracy. They (journalists) take so much effort to bring important issues to light so it is our (government’s) duty to provide them with necessary support in their endeavour,” told Director of DIPR Rajib Prakash Baruah to G Plus.

The names of the selected journalists are — Rina Choudhury (Kamrup M), Rupah Chaliha (Tinsukia), Nagen Bora (Karbi Anglong), Amitav Baruah (Biswanath), Binay Bhushan Choudhury (Kokrajhar), Harnul Rashid (North Lakhimpur), Pradeep Dutta (Sivasagar), Manorom Barua (Jorhat), Naudutta Talukdar (Nalbari), Mrinal Malla Patowary (Barpeta), Jyotirindra Lal Goswami (Karimganj), Dhani Bora (Kamrup M), Upen Ch. Deka (Morigaon), Arun Lochan Das (Kamrup M), Paresh Ch. Dutta (Cachar), Prafulla Kr. Sarmah  (Dibrugarh), Hemanta Barman (Kamrup M), Partha Pratim Baruah (Kamrup M). Bedabrata Lahkar (Kamrup M) and Mukul Kalita (Kamrup M).
