GUWAHATI: Assam witnessed the highest number of rape cases between 2017 and 2019, according to data shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, August 25.

The state recorded 3,544 cases in 2017, 3,296 in 2018, and 3,546 in 2019, representing a peak in reported incidents. This period was the most alarming phase in the recent history for rape cases in Assam.
However, data also reveals a decline since 2020. As of July 2024, there have been 580 reported cases, reflecting a decrease in the state's crime statistics.
