Assam: Regulatory Commission Reduces Electricity Tariff By 10 To 20 Paise Per Unit

GUWAHATI: The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) revised the tariffs of Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (APGCL), Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd. (AEGCL), State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) and Assam Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (APDCL) with effect from April 1, 2023.

The chairperson of Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission, Kumar Sanjay Krishna talking to G Plus said, “The commission has reduced the energy charge rates for all categories ranging from 10 to 20 paise per unit.”

APDCL in their petition had proposed a hike in fixed charges in the range of ₹15 to ₹75 per KW/KVA per month, said a press release issued by AERC adding that the company also proposed an increase in energy charges including existing fuel and power purchase price adjustment charges (FPPPA) by ₹1 to ₹3 per unit for different categories of consumers.

“The commission after taking into consideration the submissions made by the petitioner, objections and suggestions received from respondents/stakeholders and all other relevant materials on record, decided that the prayer for the proposed hike is not acceptable,” said the press release.

The commission instead accorded approval to an overall decrease of around 1.2% in the tariff for the year 2023-24 over the tariff for the year 2022-23 including existing FPPPA charges, stated the release.

The commission reduced the energy charge rates for all categories ranging from 10 to 20 paise per unit.

“However, for tariff rationalisation and to meet the overall revenue requirement, the commission has marginally increased the fixed charges by ₹10 per kilowatt per month,” said the release.
