GUWAHATI: State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's effigy was burnt in the Baghbor area of Barpeta, Assam.

As per sources present, the protest demonstration was done by Congress workers of Baghbor, who burned the effigy in the Char market.

"We want Miya museum" demands were made by the crowd in the gathering.

They further claimed that the burning of the effigy is their response to the comments made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the demands of a Char Chapori museum.

"10 MLAs have given the recommendations but when it reached the State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has rejected that calling us Bangladheshi. We want to remind him and request him to be careful about his comments made," said a protester.

Earlier, Sarma had stated that "There is no separate identity-and culture in Char Anchal of Assam as most of the people had migrated from Bangladesh. Obviously, in Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, which is the epitome of Assamese culture, we will not allow any distortion."
