Assam: Pork-y Gesture For Olympic Medalist Lovlina Borgohain

GUWAHATI: One of the top commercial pig breeders in Northeast India, Symbiotic Foods, announced a supply of free pork to boxer and Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain for the next five years.

The company’s CEO, a sports enthusiast himself, Manoj Kumar Basumatary spoke to G Plus about acknowledging Borgohain’s win with a pork-y gesture, as a token of love and appreciation for the first Olympic medalist from Assam.

"When we realised Lovlina's achievement, we thought what can we give her to felicitate her enormous success. Our company is a startup that has been working with the rural economy. It is a rural venture and Lovlina’s roots lie in a rural area of Assam. To show our appreciation toward what she has achieved for our State, for our country, we decided to supply her with free pork for the next five years,” Basumatary added.

Basumatary said that he didn't do this for any publicity and was extremely proud of the 23-year-old athlete when he decided to write a post on social media, which later went viral.

"I wrote a Facebook post regarding the same, which went viral and later several regional media picked up. But I didn't do this for any sort of publicity. Our entire company is happy for the athlete and by this gesture we are showing our support toward her and her achievements. We are extremely proud of Lovlina and wish her a bright future," Basumatary said.

Lovlina Borgohain won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the Women's welterweight event, becoming only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics, after Vijender Singh and MC Mary Kom.
