GUWAHATI: In a bid to bolster the efficiency and integrity of Assam Police, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a series of police reforms during his address at the 4th SP Conference in Bongaigaon. These initiatives aim to modernise the police force, enhance investigative capabilities, and ensure responsible conduct of police personnel.
One of the key reforms announced by CM Sarma is the digitisation of all General Diary (GD) entries. This move aims to prevent any manipulation of criminal investigations at a later stage, ensuring transparency and accuracy in maintaining records of incidents and cases.
Under Assam's Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Forensic Science Laboratory, CM Sarma revealed plans to introduce specialised Crime Scene Officers. These officers will receive training to capture evidence in a scientific manner, ensuring that critical forensic evidence is gathered professionally.
CM Sarma also revealed that the m-passport Police app has facilitated 1,56,024 police verifications for passport applicants.
In the interest of responsible communication and maintaining public trust, the Chief Minister called upon police personnel to exercise caution while interacting with the media or using their personal social media handles.
Furthermore, to support police personnel who travel outside the state for official purposes, CM Sarma announced measures to streamline procedures for reimbursement of their expenses.
