The now-viral tweet, posted by a handle named “Islamabad Insider”, alleged that locals in Assam had ambushed reinforcement troops from 25 and 7 Assam units en route to Kashmir. The tweet further linked the purported attack to growing unrest and claimed it occurred in the vicinity of the Kamakhya Temple.

Responding to the tweet, Assam Police issued a clarification on the same day, stating that the claim was completely baseless. The police termed it a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and incite unrest in the region.

“The X handle itself indicates the origin of the misinformation,” Assam Police posted on their official X account.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid sharing unverified content online and legal consequences have been warned for spreading rumours.
