Assam Police Makes Major Breakthrough In IED Investigation

GUWAHATI: The investigation into the suspected planting of IED-like materials during this year's Independence Day celebrations, Assam Police, with technical support from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), conducted coordinated raids across the state last night, resulting in the apprehension of 15 individuals, including three women.

This breakthrough development was notified through an official by the Assam police on Sunday, September 22.

These raids followed extensive intelligence gathering by Assam Police HQ in collaboration with the NIA, based on specific inputs received throughout the investigation into potential sabotage activities. Preliminary interrogations of the detained individuals have revealed incriminating evidence, and further details about the conspiracy are anticipated as investigations continue.

The individuals were apprehended in various locations across the state:

- Tinsukia: 1

- Sadiya: 1

- Dibrugarh: 3

- Jorhat: 2

- Lakhimpur: 3

- Guwahati: 2

- Nagaon: 1

- Nalbari: 1

- Tamulpur: 1

The total number of arrests stands at 15. The apprehended persons are currently undergoing further interrogation to uncover more information regarding the conspiracy.
