GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has issued new guidelines in pursuance of the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) issued by the Union Ministry for Unlock 1.

As per the new state guidelines, all religious places / places of worship have been permitted to open for public from June 8, 2020 onwards. However, these religious institutions have to maintain a gathering of no more than 20 persons per hour.

It further adds that all religious institutions shall issue disposable paper tokens to regulate the number of visitors per hour and ensure safe disposal of tokens before entering the religious places.

In spite of the relaxation in guidelines, many religious institutions have decided to remain closed until June 30, including the auspicious Kamakhya Temple.

"Although the Ministry of External Affairs has issued Guidelines that the Religious Places will be open from June 8, the Kamakhya Authorities have decided to keep the temple door closed till June 30," stated the temple committee members.

However, with Ambubachi Mela starting from June 22, the temple will observe all rituals, without opening the temple for public.
