Assam Panchayat Polls Likely During Bohag Bihu; To Be Announced By March–End

 

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has hinted that the Panchayat elections in the state are expected to take place around the time of Bohag Bihu celebrations. He stated that the official poll schedule would be announced by the end of March.

Addressing the upcoming elections, CM noted that the final Higher Secondary Class 11 examination is scheduled for March 28, following which the election dates may be declared at any time. He explained that the election process will likely commence by the end of March and could extend through April and May, depending on when the dates are announced.

Previously, the Chief Minister had indicated that the Panchayat elections would be postponed, citing an unsuitable environment for conducting the polls. However, he has now confirmed that the elections will proceed after Bohag Bihu.
