GUWAHATI: In a series of operations aimed at curbing the illegal trade of Burmese supari (betel nut), law enforcement agencies have made substantial seizures in recent days and have seized over 900 kgs of Burmese supari in Hailakandi.
During night patrolling conducted by a police team from Lala Police Station in Hailakandi, the officers recovered and seized 15 gunny bags, collectively weighing approximately 600 kilograms, filled with Burmese supari along the Lalaghat river bank.
In another operation, a vehicle was intercepted during a routine naka-checking operation in front of Bilaipur Police Station in Hailakandi. The Officer-in-Charge of Bilaipur Police Station and accompanying staff conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, ultimately revealing a concealed compartment containing Burmese supari.
Furthermore, the OC of Lala Police Station and the police team, while conducting checks at Koyah Trimuka under Lala Police Station, intercepted an auto van. Upon inspection of the vehicle, approximately 300 kilograms of Burmese supari were discovered and seized.
