GUWAHATI: A complaint filed with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam has led to the arrest of Sub Inspector of Police (UB) Sanat Kumar Mudoi. Mudoi, who serves as the Officer-In-Charge of Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong, faced allegations of demanding a bribe of ₹40,000 from a complainant. The complaint contended that the bribe was sought in exchange for permitting the uninterrupted movement of the complainant's trucks carrying iron rods and cement through the area under Dokmoka Police Station.

Refusing to comply with the demands for a bribe, the complainant sought the intervention of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, soliciting legal action against SI Mudoi. A special team from the Directorate executed a well-planned operation on October 12 at Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong.

During the operation, Mudoi was apprehended red-handed, with the sequence unfolding in the presence of impartial witnesses. The SI was captured right after accepting ₹4,000 as part of the demanded bribe. The marked bribe money was promptly recovered from his possession and appropriately confiscated, with independent witnesses present to validate the process.

In a subsequent development, a search was carried out at the official residence of Sub Inspector Mudoi, located within the premises of Dokmoka Police Station. Astonishingly, this search resulted in the discovery of a substantial amount of cash, totalling ₹17,74,500. The vast sum of cash was also seized with the presence of impartial witnesses.

Building a compelling case against the accused public servant, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption apprehended Sub Inspector Mudoi and initiated legal proceedings against him. A case was formally registered at ACB Police Station on October 12, under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). The authorities are now pursuing the necessary legal steps as part of the ongoing investigation.
