GUWAHATI: Padma Shri awardee and distinguished oncologist, Dr R Ravi Kannan, who also serves as the Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital Society in Silchar, received the recognition of the prestigious 2023 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Holistic Healthcare.
Dr Kannan has played an impactful role in transforming cancer care in Assam, especially in rural areas.
Extending heartfelt congratulations, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, took to his Twitter account, to laud Dr Ravi Kannan R for his remarkable achievement. He wrote, “HCM Dr @himantabiswa extends his warm congratulations to Dr Ravi Kannan R on being bestowed with the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award 2023.”

Dr Ravi Kannan is the sole recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award from India this year. The award ceremony is scheduled for later this year.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award, instituted to uphold the legacy of former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay, symbolises qualities such as governance integrity, selfless service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society. The award's origins trace back to April 1957, when it was established by the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, New York City, with the endorsement of the Philippine government.
