GUWAHATI: A total of 157 contractual workers, who played an important role in updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, have lost their jobs.
The decision to terminate the 157 employees and replace them with new ones was taken by the NRC Coordinator Partha Pratim Mazumder.

The 157 employees, who lost their jobs, have been asked to return their belongings and relevant documents by June 29.
Partha Pratim Mazumder took over as the State Coordinator of the NRC following the retirement of Hitesh Dev Sarma on July 30, last year.
Mazumder, talking to G Plus said, “The decision has been taken according to the direction of the Registrar General of India.”
The sacked Circle Project Supervisors have filed a petition in the Gauhati High Court regarding the issue.
