GUWAHATI: The directorate tasked with publishing the draft of Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) has approached the Supreme Court seeking more time beyond the previously proposed deadline of June 30 as publication deadline in lieu of floods in the state.

"Most of the work has been done. But some of the work could not be completed at Barak Valley. Although not on June 30, the final draft shall be published very soon," said Prateek Hajela, State NRC coordinator.

It is to be mentioned that after the first wave of floods since June 13, the NRC directorate moved the Supreme Court to seek a deferral of the deadline for publishing the remaining draft of the NRC due to floods in parts of Hojai, Barak Valley and Karbi Anglong.

The Apex Court has fixed July 2, 2018 as the next date of hearing on the NRC case.
