Assam: NIT Silchar Students Booked For Assaulting Junior

GUWAHATI: A group of nine students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Silchar, Assam, has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly assaulting a student of the same institute on Thursday, April 28.

According to reports, they have been booked for allegedly committing wrongful confinement, abuse, breaking into the hostel room, beating up, and making death threats to the student of the Electrical Engineering Department.

The junior student, a resident of Patharkandi in Karimganj, alleged that his seniors had assaulted him at midnight on Thursday. He stated that the nine seniors threatened to destroy his career if he opened up about the assault.

Further, he said he was getting threat calls and offers to settle the matter. However, he finally decided to file a police complaint against the accused.

According to Barak Bulletin, none of the students have been apprehended by the police but the authority of the Institute has suspended the accused students from the hostel.
