Currently, 587 ticket counters in these areas are equipped with QR code machines, with an additional 189 machines in advanced stages of procurement, expected to be installed at select stations soon. Major stations with these machines include Guwahati, Kamakhya, New Jalpaiguri, Rangiya, New Tinsukia, Katihar, New Bongaigaon, Goalpara Town, Darjeeling, Kishanganj, New Coochbehar, Ghum, and others.

The QR code-based system allows passengers to book tickets digitally and scan the code at the station to receive their tickets, reducing the need for physical interaction. This initiative aims to reduce queues, minimize cash usage, and speed up the ticketing process, thereby ensuring a faster and more secure ticketing process.

Earlier, the NF Railway introduced a mobile app-based ticketing system through the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app, allowing passengers to book unreserved tickets via smartphone.

The 'Digital India' initiative aims to promote three C's: contactless ticketing, cashless transactions, and customer convenience and experience. NFR requests all passengers to use cashless ticketing facilities at booking counters and actively participate in this digital initiative by Indian Railways.
