GUWAHATI: In a bid to improve the distribution of essential food commodities to beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the Assam Cabinet has introduced a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

This procedural framework covers various vital aspects, including allocation, lifting, transportation, distribution of commodities, and the inspection of Fair Price Shops (FPS), Gaon Panchayat Samabay Samiti, Wholesale Cooperative Societies (WCSS), and Large Area Multipurpose Societies (LAMPS). The primary objective behind these initiatives is to streamline the Public Distribution System (PDS) and ensure the punctual and transparent delivery of food grains to NFSA beneficiaries.

This oversight mechanism has been put in place to uphold the quality of service provided to beneficiaries and to prevent any irregularities in the distribution process. Alongside the SOP, the Assam Cabinet has announced the commencement of "Anna Seva Saptah."

This special week-long initiative will be observed from the 10th to the 16th of every month. During this designated period, the government is committed to expediting the delivery of free rice to NFSA beneficiaries, with the aim of ensuring that the entire distribution process is completed within the week.
