Assam: Narcotics Worth Over ₹2 Lakh Seized In Golaghat

 

GUWAHATI: A joint operation led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Golaghat, resulted in the seizure of contraband narcotics valued at over ₹2 lakh in Sarupathar, Assam on Sunday.

The operation was executed in cooperation with the Sarupathar, Naojan, and Sungajan police along the Assam-Nagaland interstate border where the officials conducted a raid at a basti (settlement) situated in Sungajan village, located within the Sarupathar sub-division of Golaghat district, Assam.

This operation yielded the detention of two individuals on charges related to the alleged possession and attempted smuggling of narcotics.

During the operation, the authorities discovered and seized a total of 13 soap cases filled with suspected heroin.

The weight of the seized drugs amounted to approximately 155 grams.

The estimated value of these narcotics in the international illicit markets is assessed to be around ₹2.50 lakh.

The interception of an SUV vehicle was also done during the operation which was en route to transport the contraband from Manipur to Dimapur in Nagaland, passing through Assam.

The two individuals detained during the operation were identified as Nurshad Ali and Marajul Hussain. Further legal proceedings have been initiated.
