GUWAHATI: The Nagaon Special Court has pronounced a verdict in the case involving drug smuggler Ramai Khezii Hopingson from Manipur.
Hopingson has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹2 lakh in connection with the case under Section 21 (c) of the NDPS Act. The case, which dates back to October 25, 2021, was officially registered, and subsequent charges were filed on December 13, 2021.
The operational aspect of the case was supervised by Dhruba Bora, who was then the Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) in Nagaon and presently serves as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Guwahati Police Commissionerate, overseeing security matters. Additionally, Sub-Inspector Udayak Basumatary, currently stationed in Sonitpur DEF, played a crucial role in managing the case.
The initial phases of the investigation were conducted by Sub-Inspector Kundan Ravi Das, who is presently assigned to South Salmara DEF. The final investigation and chargesheet submission were carried out by Mrinmoy Das, APS, who served as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Kaliabor at the time.
During the course of the investigation, law enforcement authorities recovered a substantial quantity of narcotics. Specifically, 298.30 grams of heroin were seized from the possession of Hopingson at Nonoi, situated under the jurisdiction of Nagaon Sadar Police Station.
