GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria held an interaction on Thursday to assess the activities of the Industries and Commerce department. The meeting, which took place in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan, was attended by Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Borah, Secretary of Industry, Commerce and Public Enterprises Lakshmanan S, and other senior officials.
Governor Kataria highlighted the market potential of bamboo, cane, and terracotta crafts in the state. The Governor specifically mentioned the terracotta craft of Asharikandi and mask-making in the Majuli district as examples of distinct craftsmanship.
Under the "One district-one product" programme, Governor Kataria proposed the creation of a market where all districts in the state could showcase their products in an open market setting. Minister Borah revealed plans to open such a market at either the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra or the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre.
Governor Kataria expressed his satisfaction with the unique potential of each district in Assam, which can be developed as a thriving industrial hub. During the meeting, the Governor also assessed the entrepreneurial activities in the state.
