Assam Mulls Deployment Of Mobile Forensic Vans In Each District

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria conducted a comprehensive briefing session for the Home and Political Department to evaluate its activities. The meeting took place in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan and was attended by top officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Home and Political Niraj Verma, and Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh.

Governor Kataria recommended introducing a ranking system for police stations based on their performance in safeguarding the lives and properties of the state's citizens. He also advised implementing a similar ranking system for Superintendents of Police (SPs) at the district level.

In addition, Governor Kataria proposed deploying at least one Mobile Forensic Laboratory in each district to collect evidence from crime scenes. This measure, he explained, would expedite case resolutions and contribute to delivering justice swiftly to the people.

The Governor further suggested establishing forensic science departments at one or two universities in the state to provide training and promote the development of forensic science. Governor Kataria also urged the DGP to organise regular fitness camps for field-level police personnel and officers to ensure they remain motivated and physically fit.
