Assam-Meghalaya Border Issue: Residents Of Meghalaya Allegedly Vandalised Property In Front Of Police

GUWAHATI: Tension prevails around the Assam-Meghalaya border in the West Karbi Anglong district. A section of people from Meghalaya allegedly claimed that the Am-e region belongs to Meghalaya and demolished the tax gate banner in front of the police on April 17.

A section of miscreants also demolished the collection gate which was set up by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in Am-e area of the border on Monday night.

After this, the Police of Assam-Meghalaya and the local people reached the Am-e area.

Meanwhile, tension continues at the border over the incident.

Talking to G Plus, Superintendent of Police (SP), West Karbi Anglong said that some people vandalised the tax gate and protested on Monday. Police from both the states - Meghalaya and Assam were present there at that time. The police officer also said that now the situation is under control.

Talking to G Plus, Pranab Deka, Additional Information And Publicity Secretary, Raijor Dal, said that It is unfortunate that losing land in Assam despite Himanta Biswa Sarma is being the leader of NEDA. Other states come to occupy the land at various times but our police administration does nothing, he added.

There have been clashes with Meghalaya citizens in various parts of the state in the past. The two governments claim to be working to resolve the border dispute with Meghalaya, but such conflicts prove that claim to be futile.
