GUWAHATI: In a bid to facilitate the secularisation of education, the Assam government is set to dissolve the Madrassa board.
The Assam government has also planned certain changes in the current Madrassa setup.

The 50 marks religious exam from Quran is set to be dropped. Assam Education Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has stated that 90% of the Madrassa curriculum is based on modern studies except for the 10% of the syllabus which have theological teachings and which have been removed.
"The religious teachers will be trained further so that they can teach other subjects," Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters.
The theological courses will be disbanded from 1st April, 2021. This will be the last batch which will appear for the High Madrassa exams.
The Madrassa board will be merged with the Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
A new law will be tabled in the upcoming session of the Assam Legislative Assembly for the said purpose.
