Assam Launches State-Wide Detection Campaign To Eradicate Leprosy

GUWAHATI: A recent campaign to detect and combat leprosy under the National Leprosy Eradication Scheme was officially inaugurated on a state-wide basis on October 30, including Kamrup Metropolitan district, Assam.

The initiative, aimed at making the state leprosy-free, will be conducted in two phases, spanning from October 30 to November 29.

The first phase is set to continue until November 12.

The pivotal element of this campaign involves health workers visiting households throughout the district, diligently identifying individuals displaying symptoms of leprosy.

This proactive approach is expected to uncover hidden cases of the disease.

Those found to be affected will receive free medical care, ensuring that they have access to essential treatment in government hospitals.

The campaign's launch ceremony, held at the Dhirenpara FRU in Guwahati, witnessed the presence of key officials, including Dr. A.K. Sharma, Chief Medical and Health Officer (Infectious Diseases) of Kamrup Metropolitan District, as well as medical professionals.

Additionally, medical personnel and district and block officials from the National Health Mission were also present during the launch.
