Assam Launches Mass Drug Administration Campaign To Eradicate Lymphatic Filariasis

 

GUWAHATI: Assam's Health & Family Welfare and Irrigation Minister, Ashok Singhal, launched the National Deworming Day program at Dhekiajuli Girls’ High School on Monday, February 10. The initiative aims to protect children from parasitic infections, promoting healthy growth and development in line with the vision of a Swasth, Sashakt Assam.

Minister Singhal also participated virtually in the launch of the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis, led by Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda.

Nationally, Minister Nadda launched the annual nationwide MDA campaign via video conference  with State Health Ministers and senior officials from 13 states. This campaign targets Lymphatic Filariasis elimination across 111 districts across these states. The program will deliver filaria prevention medicine directly to people's homes, a significant step towards an LF-free India.

The MDA campaign emphasises community participation, recognising its crucial role in the program's success. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the initiative is envisioned as a "Jan Andolan", aiming to protect millions across the country.
