Assam: Kaziranga National Park To Get Its First Woman Field Director

GUWAHATI: Sonali Ghosh, Chief Conservator of Forests, is set to make history by assuming the role of the Field Director of the renowned Kaziranga National Park (KNP), becoming the first woman to do so in the 118-year history of the park.

A recent Assam government order has paved the way for this historic transition, with Ghosh officially taking the reins on September 1. A distinguished officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS), Ghosh will succeed the outgoing Field Director, Jatindra Sarma, who is scheduled to retire on August 31.

Currently holding the esteemed position of Chief Conservator of Forests for the Research Education and Working Plan Division at the Office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force in Guwahati, Ghosh brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role.

Ghosh is armed with an array of qualifications, including a post-graduate degree in forestry and wildlife science, a post-graduate diploma in environmental law from the National Law School of India, and another diploma in systems management. Moreover, she has achieved a doctorate in remote-sensing technology, focusing on habitat suitability for tigers within the Indo-Bhutan Manas landscape.
