GUWAHATI: The Assam Government, during its state cabinet meeting held yesterday, has decided to simplify the issuance of Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates for members of the Ahom Community.
This move comes as a proactive measure to facilitate the community's access to government benefits and services.
As part of the decision, the Assam Government has authorised the President/Secretary of the Tai Ahom Welfare Society, Assam (TAWSA), and its District Committees to identify individuals belonging to the Ahom Community. These identified individuals will be recommended to the respective District Collectors (DC) to expedite the issuance of OBC Certificates.
This delegation of authority is expected to streamline the application process and reduce the bureaucratic hurdles faced by Ahom community members seeking OBC certificates.
