GUWAHATI: In an operation based on an intelligence tip-off regarding a significant sugar smuggling operation between India and Bangladesh via the Brahmaputra River, authorities launched an interception mission that resulted in the successful prevention of the illicit trade and arrested three individuals on Tuesday.
During the operation, police officials intercepted and thoroughly searched a boat, ultimately leading to the seizure of 80 bags of sugar and the apprehension of three individuals involved in the smuggling attempt.
The operation, which took place in the vicinity of the India-Bangladesh border in the South Salmara-Mancachar region of Assam, was initiated in response to credible information about the illegal transportation of large quantities of sugar across the international waterway.
Taking to Twitter, the South Salmara-Mankachar Police stated, “Acting on a tip-off regarding smuggling of large quantities of sugar from India side to Bangladesh through river Brahmaputra operation was launched and intercepted and searched one boat and seized 80 bags of sugar and arrested 3 smugglers.”
