Assam HSLC 2025 Results Witness 12 Percentage Point Drop From 2024

 

GUWAHATI: The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2025 results declared on Friday, April 11 have shown a notable decline in student performance compared to the previous year. According to official data released by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), the overall pass percentage for 2025 stands at 63.98%, marking a significant drop from 75.7% in 2024.

This nearly 12 percentage point decline has sparked concern among educationists, parents, and policymakers alike, particularly after two consecutive years (2023 and 2024) of strong academic results. The pass percentage in 2023 was 72.69% while the 2024 figure of 75.7% was the second-highest in the last decade, surpassed only by the pandemic-affected year of 2021, which saw a record 93.1% pass rate under exceptional circumstances.

This year 4,22,737 students appeared for the exam. The first rank was secured by Amishii Saikia from Pragya Academy, Jorhat with an outstanding score of 591 marks.

A look at the HSLC results over the past ten years highlights how pass percentages have fluctuated:

2016: 62.79%

2017: 47.94%

2018: 56.04%

2019: 60.23%

2020: 64.80%

2021: 93.10% (internal assessments during COVID-19)

2022: 56.49%

2023: 72.69%

2024: 75.7%

2025: 63.98%
