GUWAHATI: Minister of Assam, Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation Ashok Singhal conducted a detailed review meeting on December 14 and assessed the progress and challenges within the Housing and Urban Affairs (DoHUA) and Irrigation Departments.
The session focused on initiatives, including the Mukhyamantrir Sahaj Sahaj Griha Nirman Achani, Swachh Bharat Mission [Urban], and vital water supply projects across urban areas in the state.
The gathering, was attended by key stakeholders such as the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), AMRUT, Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and more.
Key highlights included the examination of the integrated web portal of the Directorate of Municipal Administration, progress on town hall construction, and housing initiatives for sanitation workers. Commissioner & Secretary, DoHUA, Kavitha Padmanabhan, and GMC Commissioner Megh Nidhi Dahal participated in the meeting.
In a parallel meeting with irrigation department officials, Minister Singhal led a detailed evaluation of ongoing projects. Directives were issued to Additional Chief Engineers, emphasising regular field visits for successful irrigation scheme implementation. A holistic approach was focused on encompassing the revival of defunct schemes, formulation of new plans, and the creation of comprehensive irrigation master plans for each district. Secretary Pabitra Ram Khaund and all Additional Chief Engineers of the Irrigation Department were present during the meeting.
