Assam: Heroin Worth ₹18 Crore Seized From Kamrup

GUWAHATI: In a recent operation driven by intelligence inputs, law enforcement agencies have successfully intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting narcotics from Churachandpur in Manipur to Lower Assam Districts. The operation, which took place on the north side of Saraighat Bridge in Kamrup district, resulted in the apprehension of three individuals believed to be involved in drug peddling.

In a subsequent development, three individuals from Assam, suspected to be recipients of the illicit consignment, were also apprehended at the Sachika Hotel in Amingaon. The vehicle in question was subjected to a thorough search, revealing hidden compartments within the SUV.

Inside these concealed compartments, law enforcement officials discovered a staggering 170 packets, concealed within soap cases, containing a total of 2.2 kilograms of heroin. Notably, the narcotics were found without any covering.

The estimated market value of the seized drugs is approximately ₹18 crore, making this one of the most significant drug busts recently. The successful operation was a collaborative effort between the Special Task Force (STF) and the Kamrup Police, working in close coordination.

Supervising the operation was Parthasarathi Mahanta, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the STF. Legal action in connection with this major drug seizure is set to be initiated at the Amingaon Police Outpost.

The accused individuals have been identified as Khalilur Rahman from Muktapur (Loch), Inamul Ali, aged 32, from Kalitapara, Sipajhar, Abdul Ali from Muktapur (Loch) village, Haopu Singson, aged 43, from Leijangkhopi, S. Gogou Haokip, aged 37, from Gangjang, Churachandpur District, Manipur and Samingon Dourtlgel, aged 29, from Zionveng, Churachandpur.
