This move aims to curb illegal infiltration, particularly by members of the Rohingya community, as well as other undocumented immigrants.
Sarma took to social media platform X to highlight the state’s activities to thwart immigrants from entering the state. “In the last 2 months, Assam has intercepted 130+ illegal immigrants,” he said.
The interventions for new police stations will come up at districts like Cachar, Karimganj, Dhubri, and South Salmara. Further measures will also be taken to enhance patrolling, intelligence sharing, and technical surveillance.
Along with the prohibition of infiltration, the new stations will additionally focus on adopting measures to combat cattle and drug smuggling, and improve transportation for police units, thereby fostering better connections in security.
Finally, comprehensive training will be provided for BOP/PP personnel on border duties, while there will also be systematic renovation of 14 existing BOPs along the border lines.
