Assam Govt To Fast Track Trial Of Doctor Murdered In Jorhat Tea Estate

GUWAHATI: The state government on Wednesday, September 4 announced that it will fast track the trial of Dr. Deben Dutta who was killed by local tea garden workers at Teok tea estate in Jorhat. 

Based on a report by NDTV, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the state government has asked for an inquiry into the matter. The Commissioner and Finance Secretary Shyam Jaggannathan has been asked to take charge of the inquiry.

In addition, CM Sonowal also spoke to the widow of the late doctor who was murdered and assured her that strict action would be taken to catch the culprits. 

Further, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has threatened to launch a “countrywide stir” if the government does not take action, take strict action against the culprits and ensure that the family of the deceased is given justice. 

On Saturday, August 31, a group of local tea garden workers brutally attacked and murdered Dr. Dutta after a patient died at the Teok tea estate as he was unattended to by the hospital staff.
