GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on Sunday, April 27, that only one Pakistani citizen currently lives in the state. Speaking to the media, Sarma disclosed that the individual is a woman from Pakistan who settled in Tinsukia district after marrying a local resident.

"The woman has submitted an application for a long-term visa," Sarma said. "We have written to the Government of India, asking for a decision on whether she should be permitted to stay or repatriated."

Sarma also stated that aside from this case, there are no other Pakistani nationals residing in Assam.

The statement comes after Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Friday, April 25, instructed all Chief Ministers to identify and expel Pakistani citizens from their respective states without delay.

The directive follows the terror attack in Pahalgam. In response, the Narendra Modi government ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave India by  April 27. Pakistani citizens holding medical visas have been granted an extension until April 29 to exit the country.
