Assam govt institutes enquiry in textbook discrepancy

GUWAHATI : The state government has initiated an enquiry into the discrepancies found in the social studies textbook of class VII prepared for the Assamese medium schools.

The inquiry will be headed by additional chief secretary, education department, Maninder Singh and has been asked to submit its report within seven days.   

The discrepancy was brought to light at Sri Sri Romharshan Dev ME School and another school in Majuli.

Further, the state government has directed to file an FIR against the ‘Gigabytes Press and Publication’ printing press of Nagaon. Additionally, the education department will also issue show-cause notices against the state level, district level and block level officers along with the heads of schools- who were responsible for supervision and distribution of the textbooks.

The education department has also directed the Assam Textbook Production and Publication Board for re-examination of textbooks before distribution.        

The organisation’s volunteers and vehicles collect the donated items or people can directly leave food in the fridge, informed the organisers.
