Assam Govt Constitutes Panel For Rehab Assessment Of Surrendered ULFA Cadres

 

GUWAHATI: The Governor of Assam has announced the formation of a committee tasked with assessing the rehabilitation needs of surrendered ULFA cadres. The committee will evaluate various factors including age profile, educational qualifications, and general area of residence to devise appropriate rehabilitation measures.

The constitution of the committee is in accordance with Clause 9.3 of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed on December 29, 2023, by the Government of India, Government of Assam, and United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA),

The committee comprises the following members:

•    Additional Director General of Police (SB), Assam - Chairman
•    Secretary to the Government of Assam, Home and Political Department - Member
•    Secretary/Addl. Secretary/Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, General Administration Department - Member
•    Secretary/Addl. Secretary/Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department - Member
•    Secretary/Addl. Secretary/Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Agriculture Department - Member
•    Secretary/Addl. Secretary/Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Industries & Commerce Department - Member
•    Secretary/Addl. Secretary/Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Fishery Department - Member
•    Secretary/Addl. Secretary/Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Panchayat & Rural Development Department - Member
•    Mission Director, Assam Skill Development Mission - Member
•    Any other member co-opted by the Chairman

The committee, effective immediately, is empowered to engage successful entrepreneurs and NGOs in the rehabilitation process. The initiative is aimed at facilitating the smooth reintegration of surrendered ULFA cadres into mainstream society.
