According to sources in Dispur, the decision was made to prevent distractions, as the directive applies to all members attending the meetings, including the senior-most officers and officials from various departments.

The measure follows deliberations during the last cabinet meeting held on 7 December, where it was reportedly emphasised that maintaining focus and adherence to protocol is essential for the effective functioning of the state’s highest decision-making body.

Officials are now required to leave their mobile phones outside the cabinet room before attending the meetings.
