Assam Govt Approves Implementation of the ‘Uberization’ of ASTC

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, chaired a meeting of the Assam Council of Ministers (CoM) on August 10 and took several decisions. 

The Council of Ministers approved procurement of 669 buses under the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) Uberization Scheme through PPP mode. These buses would run for an initial period of 1 year.

The Uberization scheme of Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) was announced in Assam Budget 2019-20 with an aim to fulfil the need for affordable, reliable, safe and timely public transportation.

Further, the CoM decided to enhance honorarium of state’s 161 honorary librarians from Rs 900 to Rs 1200 and 153 helpers honoraraiums from Rs 550 to Rs 9000. 

A decision was taken to upgrade the Bajali Sub-Division to a full-fledged district. 10 new posts of officers and 85 new posts for other staff have been sanctioned in this regard.

The CoM has decided to create two new companies of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

Moreover, a decision was taken for issuing notification of increase in time limits for returns, forms, assessments etc under Assam VAT Act.

The Assam Non-Government Education Institutions (Regulation of Fees) Rules 2020, State Cattle and Buffalo Breeding Policy 2020, and the Assam Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme 2020 were also approved during the cabinet meeting.
