“To ensure proper care for pregnant women and newborns in tea gardens, we are providing ₹15,000 as wage compensation,” Sarma posted on X.
The initiative is a part of Assam’s ‘Wage Compensation Scheme,’ aimed at promoting ‘Nari Samman’ by recognising and financially supporting women workers.
It is expected to alleviate financial stress for tea garden workers, particularly in the crucial period after childbirth.
Sarma went on to highlight the Nari Samman Scheme’s impact, further stating that it has benefitted over 1.3 lakh women, with ₹127.77 crore already distributed directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
