GUWAHATI: An enhanced ex-gratia compensation to the next of kin of those who either lost their lives or sustained injuries while on duty has been approved by the Assam State Government.
The decision was taken during the recent Cabinet Meeting on January 7, acknowledging the sacrifices made by polling personnel during the Panchayat Elections.
The revised ex-gratia rates are as follows:
- ₹10 lakh in case of death
- ₹20 lakh if death occurs due to violent extremist acts like road mines, bomb blasts, or armed attacks
- ₹5 lakh for officials suffering permanent disability like loss of limb or eyesight
- ₹10 lakh for similar disabilities caused by mishaps involving extremist or unsocial elements.
- A compensation of ₹50,000 will be provided to individuals engaged in election duty who sustain non-grievous wounds from firearms, weapons, bomb explosions, or any other incidents.
This aims to provide substantial support and recognition to the families of the deceased and those who have endured hardships while performing their duties in the line of duty during elections.
