Assam Government Introduces Measures For Uninterrupted Food Grain Distribution

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Cabinet, in its meeting held on November 16, announced measures to guarantee a seamless supply of food grains allocated under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 to beneficiaries.

The modifications to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) encompass allocation, lifting, transportation, distribution, and inspection processes of commodities in Fair Price Shops (FPS), Gaon Panchayat Sales Centres (GPSS), Wholesale Consumer Cooperative Societies (WCCS), Local Area Multi-Purpose Societies (LAMPS), and more.

Additionally, the State Cabinet has revised the dates for the lifting of food grains from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to the doorstep of Fair Price Shops (FPS). Under the new SOP, the revised period for lifting food grains will be from the 20th to the last day of the previous month of allocation.

The government has also declared the observance of "Anna Sewa Saptah" from the 1st to the 10th of the allocation month. This week will focus on intensifying efforts to distribute food grains, emphasising the importance of timely and equitable allocation to beneficiaries. These modifications are geared towards preventing any disruptions in the supply of essential food grains to those covered under the NFSA 2013.
