Assam Girl Walks from Charaideo to Rashtrapati Bhawan

GUWAHATI: Nijora Phukan, from Assam’s Charaideo district has planned to do a ‘people for tree’ campaign.

Phukan is walking from the historic Charaideo Maidam to the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi with an aim to spread awareness on the global climate change and environmental pollution.

She started her journey on December 01.

The JNU alumnus is actively working for environmental protection.

While speaking to the media, Phukan said, “the change in weather patterns and global climate change and environmental pollution is alarming.
And it is high time we need to aware of the general people about its consequences. We humans need to save the planet,” 
Phukan also stated that although there was an environmental protection act, there should be strict policies enacted by the Centre and that people should abide by the laws. She mooted the idea of setting up a university on the environment in the north-eastern region.
