Assam: Ghograpar OC Accused Of Abusing Minor Gets Jail Custody

GUWAHATI: A court in the Nalbari district of Assam ordered judicial custody to Biman Roy, the Officer In-Charge (OC) of Ghograpar Police Station, who stands accused of sexually assaulting and taking obscene photographs of a minor inside the police station.

The accused has been in police custody since Thursday, after he was rescued by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from the Panikhaiti Railway Station in Guwahati.

Speaking to media, Sudhakar Singh, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nalbari, said, “He was absconding since June 26, the day a case was registered against him. Later, he was rescued by the RPF in an unconscious state at a station in Guwahati. Police identified him at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital and arrested him later in the day.”

The victim had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Nalbari Police Station, which stated that the complainant and her male companion were brought to the Ghograpar Police Station on June 21 after a few villagers allegedly caught them in a “comprising position”. The minor alleged that Roy asked her to undress and took objectionable photographs of her.

Various charges have been levelled on Roy, including “assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe’” and “word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman” under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as “sexual harassment” and “using child for pornographic purpose” under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, based on the girl’s complaint.
