GUWAHATI: The death toll due to the ongoing floods in the state has increased to 62 after 12 more people were reported dead at various places on Saturday, July 20.
It should be noted that these deaths occurred despite a slight improvement in the flood situation as water from major rivers started receding.
Five deaths were reported in Morigaon district, three in Barpeta district, two in South Salmara district and one each in Nalbari and Dhubri districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
However, the affected population has come down from over 49 lakh to over 44 lakh on Saturday in 24 districts.
