Assam Floods: 1 More Dead In Cachar As Death Toll Rises To 32 

 

GUWAHATI: The ongoing monsoon has unleashed severe flooding across Assam, affecting nine districts and displacing thousands of residents. According to the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS), the floods have resulted in the death of another individual in Cachar, taking the death toll up to 32.

Flooding has impacted nine districts: Kamrup, Golaghat, Karimganj, Barpeta, Goalpara, Nagaon, Cachar, Darrang, and Dhemaji. According to the latest bulletin from the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Kushiyara River in Karimganj is flowing above the danger level.

A total of 556 villages have been affected by the floods. The floodwaters have affected 1,53,960 individuals and inundated approximately 1547.35 hectares of crop area. 

A total of 149 relief camps and 99 relief distribution centres have been established to support the displaced populations. Relief camps are currently housing 12,323 people, including 4,542 men, 4,164 women, 3,593 children, 19 pregnant or lactating mothers, and 5 persons with disabilities.

In addition to those in relief camps, 14,089 individuals are being assisted at relief distribution centres. Notably, 1,96,404 animals have also been impacted in the deluge.
