Assam: Flood Alert Issued In Barpeta After Water Levels Rise In Brahmaputra And Other Rivers

GUWAHATI: The Water Resource (WR) division of the Office of the Executive Engineer, Barpeta have warned the public about the rising water levels of several rivers including the Brahmaputra.

Other rivers that are witnessing rising water levels are Beki, Manas, Pahumara, Kaldia, Nakhanda and Bhelengi with Beki already past the danger level.

As a result, a flood alert has been issued in the district by the Flood Early Warning System (FLEWS). The warning is valid till July 14.

Taking to Twitter, Geetashri Lachit, Additional District Commissioner (ADC) of Barpeta District, wrote “12.07.2023; 5:00 hrs… Flood Alert:: River in Rising Trend. FLEWS hydro-meteorological analysis reveals a probable “Flood Watch” flood situation in District #Barpeta… Rivers likely to be flooded: Beki, Kaldia, Pahumara, Manas, Nakhanda & sub-tributaries. This warning is valid for coming 48 hrs. Please take necessary preparedness measures. Source: SEOC-ASDMA Control Room Stay safe & alert everyone.”

The notice by the WR division also lists out the daily rainfall data of the towns of Barpeta district with Sorbhog and Barpeta receiving over 1600mm of rainfall and Pathsala receiving over 1100mm of rainfall.
