Assam: Ex-Chief Secretary Harendra Nath Das Passes Away At 89

 

GUWAHATI: Harendra Nath Das, former Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, passed away at 8:20 PM on Friday, May 24 in Guwahati.

Harendra Nath Das died at his residence in Geetanagar. He was 89 years old at the time of his death. His body was cremated at the Nabagraha crematorium, Friday midnight.

Harendra Nath Das was ex-GOA Chief Secretary and first NER Ombudsman of RBI. He was in charge of the Government of Assam as he was the Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam from 1990 to 1995.

Harendra Nath Das was also famous as an economist. Das was also the Director of The Department of Finance, Government of India. He had also worked briefly as a lecturer in economics at Pragjyotish College, B. Baruah College, and finally Gauhati University and Cotton College, with the highest marks in two subjects in matriculation (history and science) and in three subjects in intermediate (history, civics, and logic).

Harendra Nath Das cleared the IAS examination (Open Competitive Examination) in 1961 and joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1961. Born at Panbazar in Guwahati, Assam, Das lived an active social life in parallel to performing his administrative duties. Harendra Nath Das had been travelling extensively all over the world and was associated with many civil society organisations.
